Sónar Barcelona
Barcelona, Spain · Jun 12 – 14 · Main quest length: 3 days
Sónar splits itself into two festivals wearing one wristband: Sónar by Day, a sprawling, sun-drunk showcase of experimental electronic acts and installations, and Sónar by Night, which doesn't start until most sane schedules have already ended. Solo, you get to actually do both without anyone vetoing the 2am set for an early night.
By day, the crowd skews toward people wandering alone between stages anyway — everyone's chasing a specific act or a specific sound, and the whole layout rewards drifting rather than sticking with a group. By night, the industrial venue on the outskirts of town turns into pure sound and light, and being solo means you can post up right at the rail without negotiating personal space with three other people.
It's a festival that treats its audience as individual listeners first, and that design happens to make it one of the most naturally solo-friendly electronic festivals in Europe — you're never the only person there alone, and by 4am nobody's counting anyway.
