Grandpa Bredo Morstøl is a real Norwegian corpse that has been kept on dry ice in a Tuff Shed since 1993, and Colorado throws him a festival every year: coffin races down Main Street, a polar plunge into water cold enough to make the choice feel unwise, and, since 2026, an actual International Cryonics Museum treating the whole premise with a straight face. It happens in the shadow of the Stanley Hotel — the one that inspired The Shining — which the festival leans into rather than around.

Know what you're walking into: the original Frozen Dead Guy Days was a scrappy, DIY Nederland event that died in 2023 and doesn't exist anymore. What relaunched in Estes Park in 2025 is a bigger, more commercial production — polished, ticketed, genuinely fun, but a different animal from the gonzo mountain-town mythology that built the original's cult reputation.
