Watch the best air guitarists on the planet perform on instruments that do not exist, in front of a crowd that takes this exactly as seriously as it deserves — which is to say, completely. The World Final crowns a champion in Oulu on the Saturday, but the whole week runs on the event's official motto, "Make Air Not War": the bit is peace through absurdity, and thirty years in, nobody's found a hole in the argument.

2026 is not a normal edition to catch this in. Oulu is Finland's European Capital of Culture this year, and the finale gets staged on a purpose-built platform over water for what the organizers are calling the "Delta Life" show — the biggest production in the championship's three-decade history. You will not get a bigger version of this event to walk into cold.

It's free to watch, it's outdoors, and it's the kind of crowd that came specifically to lose its mind over pretend instruments — solo attendance disappears into the atmosphere instantly. Finland in subarctic late-August is mild and walkable, Oulu is compact and safe, and there is no version of this event that rewards showing up with anyone in particular. Just show up.
